G0 is a quiescent state outside the cell cycle, entered by a cell not preparing to divide, either temporarily or, in some cell types, permanently.

Mature cardiac muscle and nerve cells remain in G0 permanently, never re-entering the cycle under normal conditions.
Watch for
A cell in G0 is not dead — it performs its normal roles, only outside the division cycle.
