An oxyacid's name drops "hydrogen," takes the parent oxyanion's root, and changes -ate to -ic or -ite to -ous, adding "acid."

The carbonate ion becomes carbonic acid, H2CO3, its -ate ending replaced by -ic and "acid" added after.
Watch for
Sulfuric and sulfurous acid are named irregularly — not "sulfic" or "sulfous" — one of a handful of accepted exceptions to this pattern.
