A definition is too broad when it admits non-members, too narrow when it excludes members.

"Bird: an animal that flies." Too broad — bats get in. Too narrow — penguins are shut out. Both failures, one definition.
Watch for
Always run both tests. Fixing one failure routinely creates the other.
