This procedure traces a genome from randomly fragmented DNA through Sanger sequencing, shotgun assembly, and annotation to a usable, function-labeled sequence.

Watch for

Assembly produces a raw sequence; annotation is a separate, later step attaching known gene identities to it — an unannotated genome carries no labeled meaning.
